With this being the only day we have in Ottawa, we were keen to discover what we could. After walking to the Rideau Mall for breakfast we discovered most shops don't open till 9:30am or later, and the skate hire shop not till ten, we decided to look for vacuum bags to help with packing, that worked out too hard! So we gave up!
This left us the morning to skate on the worlds largest skating rink, Rideau Canal, which naturally freezers each winter, this 7.8km rink provided plenty of room to test our skating abilities! Some better than others!
Whist here we all experienced a maple pop, maple syrup (the real stuff) scooped out with a paddle pop stick, then placed on crushed ice to set. We all agreed these have much more flavour then the maple syrup we buy back in Australia! We also experienced the taste of a Beaver Tail, both being famous local delights!
For lunch we wandered the bymarket areas, with lots to tempt!
The afternoon seen us wander the city, where the kids were still delighted to see squirrels running around, one even posed for the cameras. We stumbled across the Parliment House and the kids were keen for a tour, not so the adults, so we convinced them a tour of the Peace Tower attached would be more enjoyable. What a surprise, it included an observation level! Thanks for the suggestion kids!
