We have had a few days travelling leading up to today, but have finally reached Big White ski resort and started skiing. The kids have hit the lessons with one of them starting boarding this year for the first time. Apparently, it is a relatively easy sport as he has progressed at least 2 levels in the first day. Skiing is much better!
The snow over here is very dry compared to Australia. It snowed most of the day whilst we were skiing. If that had happened in Oz we would have been soaked to the skin, but the snow is so dry there was nothing to worry about. Another bonus of the dry snow is there is plenty of fresh powder and we have yet to see anything that remotely resembles slush (YEAH!!). The good snow made for excellent skiing and a really good day on the slopes for all.
We also discovered that the coding for the ski runs over here does not necessarily marry up to those as we know them at home. We spoke to some of the New Zealand and Australian staff who work here and they noted that if we are used to skiing in Australia then what we call Black runs at home are more than likely called Blue runs here so we should tread carefully on the first day or so.
Really enjoyed the first day of skiing and it was actually noted by someone that perhaps we should ski here every year. Might have to make the kids get jobs to support that though!!
